Book trailers and Music Inquiry.....

This month saw lots of great developments in the library. We now have 5 iPads to use for learning in the library along with 12 laptops. The addition of the iPads and laptops allow students to work and collaborate 'anywhere' in the library.
This month, the iPads were used to create book trailers in grade 6. Students learned about creator's rights and how to create excellent trailers by connecting powerful language, images and music.  Grade 5 students will make book talks using Tellagami on the iPads. Check out the student work linked off the library website for a book recommendation. Here is the rubric incorporating ALA and ISTE standards.

Ms. Jamie and Ms. Victoria worked together to create a music inquiry learning activity. Students focused on visual literacy skills to interpret the issues behind protest movements. Students then applied lessons on web source evaluation while investigating the 'meaning behind the songs.'
Students learned a lot and were surprised by how much they enjoyed the music.
